Despite appearing in 17 games for the first time in his career, Lockett saw his streak of consecutive 1,000-yard seasons come to an end at four. The one-time deep ball threat also continued to see an erosion of his big-play ability, averaging just 11.3 yards per catch, the second-lowest figure during his nine years in the league. In addition to his 894 yards, Lockett did lead the team in targets (122) and receptions (79), so it's not as though he fell off a cliff statistically, but entering his age-32 season, it appears his best days are behind him.
Seattle may be thinking something similar, and they restructured the veteran's contract during the offseason. Then there's also the matter of Smith-Njigba, who has drawn rave reviews for his play in OTAs, looking like a player that's ready for a larger role. Again, it's worth remembering this is a new coaching staff with an eye toward the future, and they'd prefer to see the younger wideout make a second-year leap. Where does that leave Lockett? For fantasy owners, he's a depth selection as your fourth or fifth receiver.

Geno Smith traded to the Raiders for a 3rd round pick Smith has one year remaining on current deal By: Mike Krueger | Fri Mar 7, 6:56 pm

| | Blockbuster: The #Seahawks are trading two-time Pro Bowl QB Geno Smith to the #Raiders for a 2025 third-round pick, sources tell The Insiders.
It’s a reunion for Pete Carroll and Smith, who also is expected to get a new contract. And Seattle will need a new QB. (Tom Pelissero on X)
FFToday's Take: Geno (34) has one year ($31 million) remaining on his current deal. Presumably a step up from the riff raff the Raiders have dealing with a quarterback the last few years, Geno is likely a bridge until the Raiders find a young QB in the couple of drafts. The Seahawks are now in need of a starter and could turn to free agent Sam Darnold. They have already cut WR Tyler Lockett and are looking to trade WR DK Metcalf.

| Seahawks open to trading WR DK Metcalf Receiver has one year left on current contract By: Mike Krueger | Wed Mar 5, 1:12 pm

| | Two-time Pro Bowl WR DK Metcalf has requested a trade and the #Seahawks have agreed to explore options, sources tell me and
@RapSheet.
Days before free agency, the 27-year-old Metcalf immediately becomes the top receiver available. (Tom Pelissero on X)
FFToday's Take: Metcalf likely wasn't happy with his role last season which saw him slip behind Jaxon Smith-Njigba as the team's No.1 wideout. He still has one year left on his current deal and reportedly would like re-negotiate a longer deal with whatever team he lands with. With the release of Tyler Lockett, the Seahawks will be revamping key pieces to their wide receiver room in 2025.

| Seahawks release veteran WR Tyler Lockett Due $17 million in 2025 By: Mike Krueger | Wed Mar 5, 12:37 pm

| | Seahawks are releasing an all-time franchise great, wide receiver Tyler Lockett, who piled up 8,594 receiving yards and 61 touchdowns across 10 seasons in Seattle. The Seahawks are opting to release Lockett rather than pay him his $17 million salary for this season, including a $5.3 million roster bonus due March 16. (Adam Schefter on X)
FFToday's Take: This move was expected as Jaxon Smith-Njigba took over the No.1 receiving role for the Seahawks last season. Lockett is 32 years old and will likely have to settle if a reduced role for whatever teams he lands with in 2025. Perhaps reuniting with HC Pete Carrol in Las Vegas?
