Cincinnati Bengals

Ja'Marr Chase active for Week 1, will play
Illness, contract dispute
By: Mike Krueger | Sep 8 2024, 11:30 am

Sources: Ja'Marr Chase will be active today vs the #Patriots. Chase decided he wants to play even without a contract in place, despite also dealing with an illness and being limited practice. (Jordan Schultz on X)

FFToday's Take: Ummm, Chase does have a contract. He just didn't get a revised contract. In any case, Chase will be needed on the field today as fellow widout Tee Higgins will miss this game with a groin injury. Even if Chase doesn't play a full amount of snaps, he should see a high target share against the Patriots and capable of being a WR1.

Pittburgh Steelers

Justin Fields will start at QB for the Steelers
Russell Wilson out with calf injury
By: Mike Krueger | Sep 8 2024, 11:22 am

BREAKING: The #Steelers plan to start Justin Fields at QB vs the #Falcons. Russell Wilson is still dealing with a calf issue that the team felt was too risky to play on after an examination this morning. (Jordan Schultz on X)

FFToday's Take: We were trending in this direction since Friday but now it's official. Fields can be a fantasy force given his rushing ability so he's worth the roster spot in case Wilson's calf is a lingering issue. He's probably more of mid-range QB2 in Week 1 against the Falcons until we see how much Arthur Smith is willing to trust him throwing the ball.

Tennessee Titans

DeAndre Hopkins expected to play Week 1
Fighting through an MCL tear
By: Mike Krueger | Sep 7 2024, 5:21 pm

#Titans WR DeAndre Hopkins (questionable, knee) is set to play Sunday at Chicago, per source, though how much he plays is uncertain and could come down to pain management. Hopkins revealed to reporters this week that he’s fighting through an MCL tear. (Jeremy Fowler on X)

FFToday's Take: It sounds like Hopkins could be limited in some fashion tomorrow against the Bears making him more of a WR3 option in Week 1. Hopkins originally suffered the injury in late July and acknowledged it usually takes a full year for the injury to heal. Expect Calvin Ridley to be the main target in the Titans passing game.

Green Bay Packers

MCL injury for Jordan Love
Timeline is TBD
By: Mike Krueger | Sep 7 2024, 3:35 pm

#Packers QB Jordan Love suffered an MCL injury in Friday’s loss to the #Eagles in Brazil, per sources. The ACL is OK. The timeline for Love’s return is TBD. They’ll gather additional info. But all in all, good news for the #Packers’ franchise QB. (Tom Pelissero on X)

FFToday's Take: Love left Friday night's game against the Eagles with 5 seconds left in the contest after getting tackled awkwardly by two defenders. He will undoubtedly miss games but the injury is not expected to be season-ending. Malik Willis is currently the backup QB for the Packers. He's never been a fantasy asset and his presence will downgrade the values of the entire Green Bay offense.

Pittburgh Steelers

Russell Wilson listed as Questionable, calf injury
limited in practice Thursday, Friday
By: Mike Krueger | Sep 6 2024, 7:48 pm

From @NFLGameDay Kickoff: It appears more likely that Justin Fields starts on Sunday for the #Steelers than Russell Wilson, though Wilson will be examined Saturday. (Ian Rapoport on X)

FFToday's Take: Wilson was added to the injury report Thursday with a calf issue and was listed as a limited participant on Friday. Reading the tea leaves, it appears that Wilson is going to sit this week which means Justin Fields is likely to get the start against the Falcons. Fields rushing ability puts him on the fantasy radar but he would be an uncomfortable play given his shortcomings as a passer.

Indianapolis Colts

Josh Downs ruled Out for Week 1
Missed practice all week
By: Mike Krueger | Sep 6 2024, 1:02 pm

The Colts on Friday ruled out wide receiver Josh Downs (ankle) for their Week 1 game against the Houston Texans on Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium. Downs, who sustained an ankle injury during an Aug. 7 training camp practice, did not participate in practice this week. Head coach Shane Steichen said Downs is progressing well and added the team hopes to have him back sooner rather than later. (Colts.com)

FFToday's Take: Downs is going to have to get some practice time in before getting on the field on Sunday's. Expect rookie Adonai Mitchell and Alec Pierce to have a larger role in Downs' absence but both are nothing more than flex options in an offense that may have limited pass attempts.

Cincinnati Bengals

Ja'Marr Chase, Tee Higgins playing Week 1? "We'll See"
Chase calls himself a game-time decision
By: Mike Krueger | Sep 6 2024, 12:16 pm

Zac Taylor says Higgins had little hamstring “tweak” yesterday. As far as him playing Sunday: “We’ll see.” As for Chase playing: “We’ll see.” (Paul Dehner Jr. on X)

FFToday's Take: Chase spoke to the media today and declared himself a gametime decision and that he'd likely be limited if he does play. Tee Higgins popped up on the injury report yesterday with a hamstring issue which is a familiar ailment for him. He'll likely be listed as Questionable when the injury report comes out later today. Chase now sits in the WR2 category for Week 1 while we wait for more clarity on Higgins.

Pittburgh Steelers

Russell Wilson limited in practice Thursday, calf injury
Same calf that bothered him in pre-season
By: Mike Krueger | Sep 5 2024, 2:38 pm

Something to watch for Sunday: #Steelers coach Mike Tomlin told reporters that QB Russell Wilson reported some calf tightness and is going to get checked out by doctors. He was limited in practice. (Ian Rapoport on X)

FFToday's Take: Wilson was bothered by a calf injury in camp so this will be something to watch as we get closer to Sunday. For now, there are no indications that he will miss Week 1. If he did, Justin Fields would be the starter at quarterback for the Steelers.

Cincinnati Bengals

Ja'Marr Chase back on the practice field, limited
Will speak to media on Friday
By: Mike Krueger | Sep 4 2024, 2:46 pm

Ja’Marr Chase returned to practice Wednesday amid negotiations over a contract extension with the Cincinnati Bengals. This marked the first time he took part in a practice open to media this offseason. This does not guarantee anything in regards to his playing status Sunday against New England or beyond. (The Athletic)

FFToday's Take: Chase was listed as limited in practice today. His "hold-in" this off-season has kept him off the practice field but he's got some work in with Burrow on the side. He has said that he will speak to the media on Friday. Assuming Chase hits the field this weekend, he'll be a top receiver option in Week 1 despite the missed practice time.

Atlanta Falcons

Kyle Pitts limited Wednesday with hamstring issue
Not great, but no time to panic
By: Mike Krueger | Sep 4 2024, 11:41 am

Raheem Morris says Kyle Pitts will be limited with a hamstring injury to start the week. He and Nate Landman (quad) are the two players he mentioned would be limited. Raheem Morris when asked if there was any concern about Kyle Pitts' hamstring - "not for me." He practiced on Monday and will be out there again today. Just limited. (Will McFadden on X)

FFToday's Take: Let's not hit the panic button. We don't like hamstring injuries for their potential lingering effect, but it seems like the Falcons are just being cautious here. Pitts apparently tweaked his hamstring a couple weeks ago but hasn't been a big issue since. We'll monitor his practice reports as the week moves on.

San Francisco

CMC, Brandon Aiyuk practice on Tuesday
RB was sidelined with minor calf issue; WR returns after long hold-in
By: Doug Orth | Sep 3 2024, 11:50 pm

49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk and RB Christian McCaffrey back at practice on Tuesday… (ESPN.com - Nick Wagoner)

FFToday's Take: The news millions of fantasy managers wanted to hear. By all accounts, McCaffrey's calf issue was a minor one that either he or the team (if not both) treated conservatively. All fantasy managers - especially those with CMC - would be wise to stash Jordan Mason just in case. As far as Aiyuk is concerned, managers may want to sit him if possible this week. The Jets' secondary is about as stingy as it gets and Aiyuk could be on something of a snap count.

Arizona Cardinals

James Conner expected to carry heavy load yet again
OC: "James is the bell cow in that room."
By: Doug Orth | Sep 3 2024, 11:20 pm

“(James Conner) is the bell cow in that room. That is not a surprise to anyone.” Arizona Cardinals OC Drew Petzing says Conner is the clear-cut top RB, but rookie Trey Benson needs to be ready at any moment. (PHNX Cardinals - Bo Brack)

FFToday's Take: In case there was any doubt about where the Arizona backfield stands entering the regular season, Petzing cleared it up. Benson figures to get worked in occasionally, but it sounds as if the Cardinals expect Conner to pick up where he left off at the end of last season when he was the highest-scoring non-quarterback in fantasy from Weeks 13-18. Benson's time will most likely come in 2025 with Conner due to be a free agent at the end of this season. For now, however, Benson figures to be little more than a high-upside handcuff.

Houston Texans

Joe Mixon ready to roll
Missed most of the preseason with a quad injury
By: Doug Orth | Sep 3 2024, 11:00 pm

Texans Pro Bowl RB Joe Mixon missed the majority of the preseason with a quadriceps injury and was held out of all of the games. Mixon is fully healthy now and displayed explosiveness during a joint practice session with the Los Angeles Rams. Signed to a three-year, $27 million extension after an offseason trade from the Cincinnati Bengals, Mixon is expected to have a heavy workload as a runner and receiver out of the backfield. “Joe will be Joe,” HC DeMeco Ryans said. “Joe will be doing what he’s done his entire career. I don’t think you’ll see anything different. He’s a strong, physical back. He’s going to get yards. So, I’m excited about seeing Joe run the ball behind our offensive line.” (KPRC - Aaron Wilson)

FFToday's Take: It remains to be seen how productive Mixon will be in Houston after an inefficient back for most of his time in Cincinnati. With that said, Mixon should see the lion's share of backfield touches with Cam Akers (multiple Achilles injuries) and Dameon Pierce (bad fit for OC Bobby Slowik's offense) unlikely to convince the Texans to spread the workload. Consider Mixon a volume-based RB2 with occasional RB1 upside in what should be a high-scoring offense this season.

Pittburgh Steelers

Jaylen Warren anticipates playing in opener
Recovering from a preseason hamstring injury
By: Doug Orth | Sep 2 2024, 8:00 pm

Steelers RB Jaylen Warren (hamstring) said he did individuals and special teams work in practice today, and he anticipates joining team periods on Wednesday. He said he'll be good to go for the season opener Sunday. (ESPN - Brooke Pryor)

FFToday's Take: Warren came at a discount during August drafts due to the hamstring injury. While his fantasy managers should rejoice because of that, Pittsburgh's offensive line may not be what most expected due to the injuries it has dealt with so far. With that said, Warren still profiles as a capable flex option who will likely dabble with RB2 production on occasion. Najee Harris should still be drafted a bit earlier based on his expected workload.

Indianapolis Colts

Josh Downs rehabbing well
Suffered high-ankle sprain about a month ago
By: Doug Orth | Sep 2 2024, 7:40 pm

Josh Downs ‘progressing well’ while rehabbing high ankle sprain. No indication if he’ll practice Wed. (FOX 59 - Mike Chappell)

FFToday's Take: Fantasy managers should get a pretty good idea about his Week 1 availability based on his practice participation level on Wednesday. Even if he cannot play this week or next, he needs to be a high-priority target in the later rounds. Early camp reports suggested he looked the best of all the Indy receivers, including Michael Pittman Jr. Downs may begin the season as a WR5/6, but he is one of the best bets to become a weekly starter among players drafted after pick 100.

Kansas City Chiefs

RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire out 4 games, NFL list
Chiefs RB battled PTSD during camp
By: Mike Krueger | Sep 2 2024, 11:25 am

The #Chiefs have placed RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Clyde on the Reserve/Non-Football Illness list. He’s out the first four games. (Ian Rapoport on X)

FFToday's Take: CEH has experienced symptoms of PTSD during camp this Summer, stemming from a self-defense incident back in 2018. His absence will vault Samaje Perine and Carson Steele into bigger roles early in the season. It's likely Andy Reid will want Perine to take on as much of the work as he can handle, but for now, Isaiah Pacheco figures to be rock solid RB1 the first few weeks of the season.

San Francisco

49ers' WR Ricky Pearsall shot in robbery attempt
In stable condition at local hospital
By: Mike Krueger | Aug 31 2024, 8:12 pm

Per SFPD: 49ers Ricky Pearsall was shot through the chest in a robbery attempt over a Rolex. He was headed to a signing event on Geary & Market. There was a struggle for the gun. Both Ricky & the suspect were shot. Both parties stable at SF General Hospital. (Sean Cunningham on X)

FFToday's Take: It appears that Pearsall escaped serious injury but this is an ongoing situation and more details will be available soon. He has battled a shoulder injury during camp as he attempts to get a foothold in the 49ers offense.

San Francisco

49ers, Brandon Aiyuk agree on contract extension
Hold-in over
By: Mike Krueger | Aug 29 2024, 6:57 pm

In the end, Brandon Aiyuk accepted the same deal that has been on the table since August. 10, per league sources. His hold-in did not alter any part of his new four-year, $120 million extension. He took the same deal that had been there for the past three weeks. Hold-in over. (Adam Schefter on X)

FFToday's Take: Trade deals were in the works with New England, Cleveland and Pittsburgh, but in the end, Aiyuk stays in San Francisco. It just so happens the 49ers are the best team for his fantasy value. His coming off his best season (75-1342-7) as a pro finishing as the WR12 in Half-PPR leagues. Despite missing all of training camp, he'll remain a high-end WR2 heading into a huge draft weekend.

Cleveland Browns

Browns bring back RB D'Onta Foreman
RB was released during roster cuts
By: Mike Krueger | Aug 29 2024, 5:22 pm

Browns sign RB D'Onta Foreman, add five to practice squad. (ClevelandBrowns.com)

FFToday's Take: The Browns cut Foreman as they paired down their roster to their initial 53 players. They indicated at that time that would be bringing him back into the mix. Foreman will join Jerome Ford and Pierre Strong Jr. as the Browns running back trio when they face the Cowboys in Week 1. Ford holds the most fantasy value of the group while Nick Chubb (knee) sits at least the first four weeks.

New England Patriots

Patriots name Jacoby Brissett starter for Week 1
Drake Maye waiting in the wings
By: Mike Krueger | Aug 29 2024, 8:10 am

Now official: #Patriots coach Jerod Mayo informed players in a team meeting that Jacoby Brissett is the starting QB, while Drake Maye will be his backup. Brissett told @nflnetwork in August, “I'm the perfect person to mentor the guys, but I'm also the perfect person to start.” (Ian Rapoport on X)

FFToday's Take: Mayo had hinted much of the off-season that Brissett was going to be the starter and here we are, despite the head coach admitting that Maye had performed better than Brissett at times in games. Given the lack of talent at the skill positions in New England, it's hard to get excited about either quarterback in fantasy leagues. They an remain on your waiver wire for now.

Kansas City Chiefs

RB Samaje Perine to sign with Chiefs
Help on 3rd downs
By: Mike Krueger | Aug 28 2024, 1:27 pm

The #Chiefs are signing veteran RB Samaje Perine to their active roster, sources tell me and @RapSheet. (Mike Garafolo on X)

FFToday's Take: The Chiefs will now have a combination of Perine, Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Carson Steele behind starter Isiah Pacheco. Perine was somewhat of a third-down specialist for the Broncos last season, posting a 50-455-0 line through the air. A similar role could be awaiting in Kansas City. All three of the Chiefs backup running backs are not worth drafting in most leagues. A committee approach will be taken if something happens to Pacheco.

Dallas Cowboys

Cowboys add Dalvin Cook to running back room
Will start on practice squad
By: Mike Krueger | Aug 28 2024, 10:55 am

A day after visiting with the Cowboys, veteran RB Dalvin Cook is signing with the club's practice squad, according to sources. Tuesday's workout went well and Cook was in good shape. He can be called up from the PS and play Week 1 if needed. (Todd Archer on X)

FFToday's Take: The Cowboys have a relatively weak running back room with Ezekiel Elliott and Rico Dowdle holding down the top two positions. Cook didn't play much in 2023 as he was stuck behind Breece Hall in New York and spent some time with Baltimore in the playoffs. This move creates a muddled mess for fantasy purposes and is a situation to avoid if possible.

San Francisco

Elijah Mitchell done for the season
Jordan Mason set to serve as Christian McCaffrey's primary backup
By: Doug Orth | Aug 27 2024, 8:30 pm

49ers placed RB Elijah Mitchell on the season-ending injured reserve list. (ESPN - Adam Schefter)

FFToday's Take: Jordan Mason was reportedly making a strong push to overtake Mitchell anyway, so this just confirms that Mason is now one of the most valuable handcuffs in fantasy. With Mitchell both set to hit free agency at the end of the season, he has likely taken his last snap with the 49ers.

Los Angeles Rams

Kyren Williams expected to return punts
Starting RB has returned 17 punts over last five seasons
By: Doug Orth | Aug 27 2024, 8:10 pm

Sean McVay said Kyren Williams will be the Rams' punt returner. (ESPN.com - Sarah Barshop)

FFToday's Take: Count this nugget as news fantasy managers did not expect to read today. Not only does Williams have limited experience returning punts (14 in 2021 for Notre Dame and three last season), but this admission likely means there is no way Williams will be the same workhorse he was last season. Especially considering Williams' injury history, his fantasy managers would be wise to make Blake Corum a priority in drafts.

Green Bay Packers

Marshawn Lloyd likely to begin season on IR
Rookie suffered hamstring injury in preseason debut
By: Doug Orth | Aug 26 2024, 11:00 pm

Rookie Marshawn Lloyd (hamstring) is expected to start the season on IR -- they can do that now without missing 2024. (Peter Bukowski on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Lloyd's likely absence leaves only AJ Dillon and Emanuel Wilson behind Josh Jacobs, who should begin the season in a featured role. Considering Lloyd was anything but a featured back in his college days and how little Dillon has relatively done as a pro, it would be a shock if Jacobs did not end up playing at least 60 percent of the snaps most weeks. What it all means is that Jacobs is probably a very good low-end RB1 option who is typically coming off the board in the fourth round.

Dallas Cowboys

CeeDee Lamb lands massive contract extension
WR ends holdout with second-largest non-QB deal in league history
By: Doug Orth | Aug 26 2024, 2:15 pm

ESPN Sources: Cowboys and All-Pro WR CeeDee Lamb reached agreement today on a record four-year, $136 million deal that now makes him the second highest-paid non-QB in NFL history. The deal includes a $38 million signing bonus, the largest ever given to a wide receiver. (ESPN - Adam Schefter)

FFToday's Take: Fantasy football's reigning overall WR1 now has two weeks to get his mind and body right for Week 1 against the Browns. The Cowboys really had no choice but to get this deal done if they wanted to sell their fans on the idea of being competitive this season, as Brandin Cooks and Jalen Tolbert would have likely started the year as the top two receivers. Expect Lamb and Dak Prescott to pick up right where they left off last season when the former earned 181 targets. Lamb should remain in contention for the No. 1 overall pick in fantasy drafts.

Kansas City Chiefs

Chiefs bring back WR JuJu Smith-Schuster
End of the road for Kadarius Toney?
By: Mike Krueger | Aug 26 2024, 9:00 am

Reunion: Veteran WR JuJu Smith-Schuster is signing with the #Chiefs, per source. (Tom Pelissero on X)

FFToday's Take: This signing is likely for a minimum contract and does raise some concern around a potential suspension for Rashee Rice. But, we have no news on that at the moment. This move also likely signals the end of the road for Kadarius Toney in Kansas City, but we'll get confirmation on that as the NFL trims their rosters by 3 PM tomorrow. JuJu isn't likely to have much fantasy impact behind Rice, Marquise Brown and Xavier Worthy.

Cleveland Browns

Nick Chubb expected to remain on PUP list to start season
Will miss at least the first four games of the season
By: Mike Krueger | Aug 26 2024, 8:19 am

Cleveland is expected to leave Nick Chubb on the Physically Unable to Perform List, which means he is ineligible to be active during the first four games of the season, per league sources. (Adam Schefter on X)

FFToday's Take: We were expecting this to take place but now we know for sure Chubb will miss at least the first four games. We're likely to get some kind of committee between Jerome Ford, D'Onta Foreman (ribs) and Pierre Strong Jr. (ribs) with Ford being the lead back and the most fantasy relevant. Both Foreman and strong are currently dealing with rib issues.

Arizona Cardinals

WR Zay Jones hit with five-game suspension
Violating the personal conduct policy
By: Mike Krueger | Aug 23 2024, 3:41 pm

The NFL has suspended #Cardinals WR Zay Jones the first five games of the regular season for violating the personal conduct policy. The Florida state attorney's office dropped a misdemeanor domestic battery charge against Zay Jones in March, when he was on the #Jaguars. But the NFL ran its own investigation, which is standard, and returned a five-game suspension. (Tom Pelissero on X)

FFToday's Take: Jones was signed this off-season to compete for the Cardinals' third wide receiver job but that role is being filled by Greg Dortch. Jones remains off the fantasy radar and should not be drafted in most leagues.

Philadelphia Eagles

Trade: Eagles land Commanders' WR Jahan Dotson
Washington gets draft pick compensation
By: Mike Krueger | Aug 22 2024, 11:30 am

A rare in-division trade: Washington is sending former first-round pick Jahan Dotson and a fifth-round pick to the Eagles in exchange for a 2025 third-round pick and two seventh-round picks, per sources. (Adam Schefter on X)

FFToday's Take: The Eagles have been looking to solidify their third receiver position for a few years now. Perhaps Dotson can fill that void. He was the 16th pick back in 2022 but has yet to make a big impact in the league and wasn't standing out in training camp with the Commanders this pre-season. Given the star-power the Eagles have at wide receiver, Dotson will need an injury to A.J. Brown or DeVonta Smith to have any significant fantasy relevance.

Denver Broncos

Broncos name rookie QB Bo Nix starter for Week 1
Broncos at Seahawks Week 1
By: Mike Krueger | Aug 21 2024, 2:18 pm

Expected but official: Broncos HC Sean Payton officially has named rookie first-round pick Bo Nix as Denver’s new No. 1 QB. Nix is now slated to start opening day in Seattle against the Seahawks. (Adam Schefter on X)

FFToday's Take: Nix will likely hold the job the entire season unless injured with Jarrett Stidham serving as the backup. Nix doesn't project as big fantasy asset, currently being drafted as bottom-end QB2 in re-draft leagues. He'll likely deliver some solid fantasy outings this season but will be wildly inconsistent in his first year in the league.

Carolina Panthers

Diontae Johnson suffers minor foot injury Tuesday
Returned to practice shortly after limping off
By: Doug Orth | Aug 20 2024, 11:55 pm

Diontae Johnson just limped to the opposite field following an 11 on 11 rep. He’s walking it off for now. Update (10:32 am): He’s back and just caught a pass. (Charlotte Observer - Mike Kaye)

FFToday's Take: It's been a rough week or two for Johnson, who just returned from a recent groin injury. Thankfully, Johnson did not appear to miss much practice time. HC Dave Canales has been consistent in saying Johnson will be the focal point of the passing game this season, so he should have no issue performing like a high-end WR3 - if not a low-end WR2 - assuming he can stay healthy.

Tennessee Titans

DeAndre Hopkins should be ready to go for opener
Suffered knee injury early in camp
By: Doug Orth | Aug 19 2024, 8:45 pm

Brian Callahan said DeAndre Hopkins should be back soon. The #Titans expect to have him back for the season opener. (ESPN.com - Turron Davenport)

FFToday's Take: This should be good news for every major player involved in the passing game. The Titans undoubtedly want Will Levis to have his top two options in the passing game and Calvin Ridley should benefit from having a player of Hopkins' stature and ability taking defensive attention away from him. We can probably no longer expect Hopkins to be a focal point of a passing game at age 32 and injuries becoming a factor, but it would also be a mistake for fantasy managers to fade him as a potential WR3 option.

New York Jets

Mike Williams getting closer to return
WR in final stages of return from ACL tear
By: Doug Orth | Aug 19 2024, 8:35 pm

WR Mike Williams told reporters he expects to join team drills next week, the last hurdle before he's cleared for Wk 1. "I think I'm ready to do some team stuff, just getting in a rhythm, doing things with the team, just lining up and going through some plays." (ESPN.com - Rich Cimini)

FFToday's Take: Most fantasy managers know the story with Williams at this point. He will likely beat his current 12th-round ADP when he is in football shape, but his lack of durability will always be a concern. Especially considering Williams will not have the benefit of having gone through an entire training camp with Aaron Rodgers, managers should also expect him to start slow. With that said, Williams could consistently perform at a WR3/4 level if he can stay on the field in 2024.

Buffalo Bills

Curtis Samuel dealing with turf toe
WR listed week-to-week
By: Doug Orth | Aug 19 2024, 8:30 pm

According to Buffalo Bills HC Sean McDermott, WR Curtis Samuel is considered week-to-week with a turf toe injury. (ESPN - Adam Schefter)

FFToday's Take: Much depends on the grade of the sprain, as a Grade 1 sprain will likely allow Samuel to play in Week 1. A Grade 2 sprain could bother him for a while after that. Hopefully, neither the Bills nor Samuel rush his return, as this is an issue that could linger all season if not managed properly. Fantasy managers should expect a heavier dose of Khalil Shakir and Dalton Kincaid over the first couple weeks of the season.

Pittburgh Steelers

Jaylen Warren expected to miss multiple weeks, hamstring
Week 1 status in doubt
By: Mike Krueger | Aug 18 2024, 8:37 pm

Following a breakout second season, Pittsburgh Steelers running back Jaylen Warren's status to open his third year is in doubt. Warren will be out multiple weeks due to a hamstring injury sustained Saturday and his status for the season opener is up in the air, NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported Sunday. (NFL.com)

FFToday's Take: With Week 1 exactly three weeks away, it sounds like Warren is going to be questionable for the Steelers opener against the Falcons. This could mean more work Najee Harris early in the season if Warren isn't able to go. Cordarrelle Patterson is waiting in the wings.

Las Vegas Raiders

Raiders begin the season with Gardner Minshew at QB
Beats out Aidan O'Connell
By: Mike Krueger | Aug 18 2024, 2:02 pm

The #Raiders are naming Gardner Minshew their starting QB, per sources. Coach Antonio Pierce just informed the QBs of his decision after a camp battle between Minshew and Aidan O'Connell. Minshew Mania continues in Las Vegas, which opens Sept. 8 vs. the #Chargers. (Tom Pelissero on X)

FFToday's Take: The Raiders have been letting Minshew and Aidan O'Connell battle it out during training camp. It appears will Minshew will get the nod to start the season but it won't be a surprise if O'Connell makes some starts along the way. This makes Minshew a low-end QB2 in fantasy circles. The Raiders begin the season @LAC, @BAL, CAR and CLE.

Pittburgh Steelers

Jaylen Warren leaves preseason game No.2, hamstring injury
Doubtful to return
By: Mike Krueger | Aug 17 2024, 7:55 pm

Steelers RB Jaylen Warren sustained a hamstring injury tonight and the team says he now is doubtful to return vs. the Bills. (Adam Schefter on X)

FFToday's Take: We don't know the severity of the injury as of now, but we're sure to get more updates soon. Warren is set to split carries with Najee Harris in the Arthur Smith offense of the Steelers. Stay tuned...

Jacksonville Jaguars

Christian Kirk dealing with mild calf injury
Will be held out of preseason game Week 2
By: Mike Krueger | Aug 15 2024, 9:38 am

Jaguars WR Christian Kirk has a mild calf injury that has kept him out of joint practices vs. Bucs + Saturday’s preseason game, per HC Doug Pederson. He will be re-evaluated next week. Pederson said QB Trevor Lawrence won't play Sat. Happy with joint practice reps this week. (Cameron Wolfe on X)

FFToday's Take: This will be something to monitor next week. If Kirk is able to back on the field, then there's no need panic about his fantasy value. More meaningful reps incoming for rookie Brian Thomas Jr., Gabe Davis and Parker Washington in the meantime.

Minnesota Vikings

J.J. McCarthy out for the 2024 season, knee injury
Torn meniscus
By: Mike Krueger | Aug 14 2024, 1:43 pm

#Vikings rookie QB J.J. McCarthy will miss the entire 2024 season after having his torn meniscus repaired today by Dr. Chris Larson at Twin Cities Orthopedics, sources tell me and @RapSheet. Disappointing end to Year 1, but repair gives McCarthy the best chance at a long career. (Tom Pelissero on X)

FFToday's Take: The Vikings were hoping that a full repair wasn't necessary but unfortunately the rookie will now miss the entire season, leaving the starting quarterback duties to Sam Darnold, who now becomes a viable fantasy option late in drafts as a backup quarterback. Nick Mullens and Jaren Hall are also currently on the roster.
