| Bucs and Baker Mayfield agree on one-year deal Will compete with Kyle Trask for starting QB job By: Mike Krueger | Mar 14 2023, 11:48 am
|
The #Bucs are finalizing a deal with former No. 1 overall pick Baker Mayfield, per sources.
Mayfield finished his fifth NFL season strong after landing with the #Rams. Now he gets a chance to take over for Tom Brady in Tampa, and is still only 27. (Tom Pelissero on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: Mayfield is singing on a one-year, $8.5 million deal which indicates he'll be competing with Kyle Trask for the starting QB job in 2023. He's made numerous stops over the last year including CLE, CAR, LAR and now TB. The Bucs are in rebuilding mold but do have their starting wide receivers back: Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and Russell Gage. We're looking at mid-range QB2 value at the high end for the eventual starting Bucs quarterback.

| Raheem Mostert sticking with Miami, 2-year deal Miami keeps familiar face By: Mike Krueger | Mar 14 2023, 11:08 am
|
Dolphins and RB Raheem Mostert reached agreement today on a two-year deal, per his agent @TesslerSports. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: Mostert and Jeff Wilson are both free agents so Miami was in need of a free agent running back. With Salvon Ahmed already re-signed, they elect to keep Mostert and could still bring back Wilson given he won't break the bank. Mostert played 16 games last season, averaging 4.9 yards per carry.

| Raiders, Jakobi Meyers agree on three-year deal $21 million guaranteed By: Mike Krueger | Mar 14 2023, 10:00 am
|
Former Patriots WR Jakobi Meyers and the Raiders reached agreement on a 3-year, 33 million deal that includes $21 million guaranteed, as @RapSheet reported. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: After being shutout on the first day of the negotiating period, we finally got a wide receiver to sign. Given the weak WR class, Meyers was near the top of the heap, coming off back-to-back 800-yard receiving seasons. He'll play second fiddle to Davante Adams in Las Vegas and will compete with tight end Darren Waller for targets. Hard to see Meyers making a big fantasy splash with Jimmy Garoppolo at quarterback.

|
| Raiders expected to sign QB Jimmy Garoppolo Three-year deal, $34 million guaranteed By: Mike Krueger | Mar 13 2023, 1:52 pm
|
Comp update: Raiders are giving former 49ers’ QB Jimmy Garoppolo a three-year, $67.5 million deal, including $34 million guaranteed, per source. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: The $34 million guaranteed is an indication that the Raiders can still be in the rookie quarterback market in the upcoming draft where they currently have the 7th pick. Garoppolo will give the Raiders a veteran presence at the position in 2023. His fantasy outlook will remain in the QB2 range unless Josh McDaniels decides to open up passing offense.

| Patriots trade TE Jonnu Smith to the Falcons New England receives a 7th-round pick By: Mike Krueger | Mar 13 2023, 11:16 am
|
Sources: The #Patriots are trading TE Jonnu Smith to the #Falcons, as a former big-ticket free agent heads elsewhere and creates space for New England. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: The Patriots are getting a 7th-round pick in return. As any Kyle Pitts owner would tell you, the Falcons made little use of their tight ends last season. The position caught 62 passes for 695 yards in Atlanta, about half the yardage amassed by Travis Kelce. Atlanta is still trying to figure out the quarterback position and Jonnu isn't likely to be a fantasy option unless Pitts missing significant time.

|
| Texans sign veteran WR Robert Woods 2-year, $10M guaranteed By: Mike Krueger | Mar 10 2023, 8:22 pm
|
Sources: Former #Titans and #Rams WR Robert Woods is signing with the #Texans, adding a veteran presence to a young team. He gets a 2-year, $15.25M deal with $10M fully guarantee and a max value of $17M. A new QB’s best friend. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: Brandin Cooks has stated he wants out of Houston so this move for Woods would fill the veteran presence role. Woods will turn 31 next month and likely isn't going to have much fantasy value on a team with a rookie quarterback (Texans have the No.2 pick).

|
| Bears trade No.1 overall pick to CAR for D.J. Moore, picks Panthers move up from No.9 to No.1 By: Mike Krueger | Mar 10 2023, 5:28 pm
|
Compensation update, per sources: Bears trading No. 1 overall pick to Carolina for: pick No. 9, pick No. 61, a first-round pick in 2024, a second-round pick in 2025 and WR D.J. Moore (Adam Schefter on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: Whoa. The Bears were in a great spot either trade their No.1 overall pick or trade Justin Fields if they felt the QB options in the draft were superior. They elected to trade with Carolina, get a No.1 wide return add a first round pick next season and two second-round picks. The Panthers now have their choice of any rookie quarterback. C.J. Stroud, Bryce Young, Anthony Richardson and Will Levis are the likely candidates for Carolina.

|
| Vikings release WR Adam Thielen Spent nine seasons with the Vikings By: Mike Krueger | Mar 10 2023, 9:48 am
|
The #Vikings are releasing two-time Pro Bowl WR Adam Thielen today, per sources.
A onetime undrafted free agent from Minnesota State who went on to catch 55 touchdown passes for his hometown team, Thielen has plenty left in the tank at age 32 and wants to land with a contender. (Tom Pelissero on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: Thielen has spent nine seasons with the Vikings with the last two playing second fiddle to Justin Jefferson. By the end of last season, Thielen was becoming the fourth option in the passing game behind TE T.J. Hockenson and K.J. Osbourn. It's plausible Thielen can find more targets with another team but his fantasy value is likely capped at a low-end WR2 given his age (32).

| Cardinals say goodbye to WR Robbie Anderson Turns 30 in May By: Mike Krueger | Mar 8 2023, 4:14 pm
|
Former Jets WR Chosen Robbie Anderson has been released by the #Cardinals, the team announced. Turns 30 in May, coming off two down years. A 1,000-yard receiver in '20, the year after he left the #Jets. (Rich Cimini on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: Arizona gave up a sixth-round and seventh-round draft picks to Carolina for Anderson but he never made the impact anticipated. He has changed to his name twice in the last two years and will now be looking for his fourth team in his NFL career. He posted a 20-282-1 line last season in twelve games.

| Giants sign Daniel Jones, tag Saquon Barkely $10.1M franchise tag for Barkley By: Mike Krueger | Mar 7 2023, 4:29 pm
|
So Daniel Jones is on the books for four years and $160 million with $82 million guaranteed at signing, per sources. There is another $35M available in incentives.
Saquon Barkley is currently at $10.1M on the franchise tag. (Jordan Raanan on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: The $82 million guaranteed for Jones comes in the first two seasons. Not bad for a quarterback that threw for 3205 yards, 15 TDs and rushed for 7 TDs in 2022 - his best season as a pro. His QB13 fantasy ranking was made possible by his rushing usage (708 yds) but it's hard to see Jones vaulting into a mid-level QB1 given his limited skill set. We've likely seen his ceiling as a fantasy QB.

| Ravens place non-exclusive franchise tag on Lamar Jackson Ravens can match offer or receive two first-round picks By: Mike Krueger | Mar 7 2023, 3:04 pm
|
Ravens sent notice to the NFLPA that they placed the $32.41 million non-exclusive franchise tag on QB Lamar Jackson. He now is allowed to negotiate with other teams, but Ravens have right to match any offer sheet he signs or take two first-round picks in return for him. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: The two sides have been negotiating for almost two years and still haven't found a resolution. The Ravens are still hopeful of working out a long-term deal but unless one side has a change of heart, we could see Lamar in a different uniform in 2023. For their part, the Falcons (who have a ton of cap room) have stated they're not going to pursue Jackson.

| Seahawks keep Geno Smith on new three-year deal Comeback Player of the Year award in 2022 By: Mike Krueger | Mar 6 2023, 6:02 pm
|
The #Seahawks and Pro Bowl QB Geno Smith are finalizing a new multi-year contract, sources tell me and @RapSheet.
Smith, 32, would’ve become a free agent. Instead, he’ll stay in Seattle, where he won the NFL Comeback Player of the Year last season. (Tom Pelissero on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: Smith parlayed his Comeback Player of the Year award into $40 million guaranteed. Not bad for the 32 year-old journeyman quarterback who last had a steady starting gig back in 2014 with the Jets. Geno was one of only four quarterbacks to throw for at least 30 TDs in 2022 and should be a mid-round selection in fantasy drafts this Summer.

|
| Cowboys place franchise tag on Tony Pollard $10.09 million By: Mike Krueger | Mar 6 2023, 12:07 pm
|
Cowboys now have placed their franchise tag on RB Tony Pollard, per source. RB franchise tag is $10.09 million. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: Pollard was set to be a free agent but will be sticking in Dallas at least for the 2023 season if a longer term can't be worked out before mid-July. Pollard was Dallas' best running back last season (193-1007-9; 39-371-3) and for his career is averaging 5.1 yards per carry. Pollard finished as the RB10 last season despite splitting time with Ezekiel Elliott (RB23). The Cowboys are looking to retain Zeke but it will likely at a reduced cost.

|
| Derek Carr settles on the Saints: 4-year deal Upgrade at quarterback coming to New Orleans By: Mike Krueger | Mar 6 2023, 10:30 am
|
The #Saints are giving their new QB Derek Carr a 4-year deal, source said. With a big QB number coming, they'll make it work with their cap situation. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: The first big QB domino of the off-season has fallen. The Saints have been messing around with Jameis Winston, Andy Dalton, Trevor Siemian and Taysom Hill the last couple seasons at quarterback. Carr represents an upgrade but isn't an elite option at the position. His presence should stabilize the offense as a whole and allow Chris Olave to flourish as an easy WR2. Michael Thomas' status with the team remains unclear given his injury history and contract/cap situation.

|
| Rams give Allen Robinson permission to seek trade Veteran wideout will be on the move By: Mike Krueger | Mar 6 2023, 7:00 am
|
The #Rams have given WR Allen Robinson’s agents permission to seek a trade, and L.A. is willing to pay a portion of Robinson’s $15.25 million guaranteed salary to facilitate a deal, per sources.
Robinson is still only 29. Another big-name veteran potentially leaving L.A. (Tom Pelissero on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: Robinson had a dismal year with Rams and never got a foothold in the offense, even when Cooper Kupp was lost midway through the season. His 33-339-3 in only ten games was a major disappointment given he was being drafted as a WR2/3. Given this a weak free agent wide receiver class, Robinson should have a healthy market for his services.

|
| Josh Jacobs to get franchise tag if deal isn't reached Led the league in rushing in 2022 By: Mike Krueger | Mar 3 2023, 2:55 pm
|
The #Raiders plan to place the franchise tag on star RB Josh Jacobs if the sides don’t reach a deal by Tuesday’s deadline, per sources.
The NFL’s leading rusher last season, Jacobs is viewed as a part of the future in Las Vegas. (Tom Pelissero on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: Jacobs led the league in rushing yards (1653) last season and finished as the RB3 in PPR leagues behind Christian McCaffrey and Austin Ekeler. His 340 carries were second only to Derrick Henry (349). He turned out to be a league-winner after being drafted around pick 50 as the RB21. Coming off his best season as a pro, Jacobs is just 25 years old and should be priced as a low-end RB1 heading into 2023.

|
| Jaguars expected to place franchise tag on TE Evan Engram $11.345 million By: Mike Krueger | Mar 2 2023, 12:35 pm
|
Jaguars are expected to place the franchise tag on TE Evan Engram, per source. The tight end franchise tag is $11.345 million. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: Engram set career highs in catches (73) and yardage (766) with the Jaguars last season on his way to finishing as the TE8 in PPR leagues, well ahead of his TE23 pre-season average draft position. He's a good fit for Doug Pederson's short-passing scheme and should see his value rise to the low-end TE1 range in time for redraft leagues this summer.

|
| Bucs saying goodbye to Leonard Fournette Move will be official on March 15th By: Mike Krueger | Feb 28 2023, 2:21 pm
|
The #Bucs plan to release RB Leonard Fournette when the new league year begins March 15, per sources.
GM Jason Licht mentioned recently that he felt Fournette was still a three-down back in this league. “Lombardi Lenny” is still only 28 and has plenty in the tank. (Tom Pelissero on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: Tampa Bay struggled to run the ball in 2023 and will be be undergoing a rebuild the next couple seasons now that Tom Brady has retired. Fournette averaged just 3.5 yards per carry last season while splitting carries with Rachaad White who only averaged 3.7 ypc. The Bucs are way over the salary cap and will need to make other moves to get under the cap by March 15th.
|
|
| Giants expected to release Kenny Golladay Transaction will occur March 15 By: Mike Krueger | Feb 28 2023, 10:35 am
|
Giants are releasing WR Kenny Golladay on the first day of the league year, March 15, per source.
By waiting until March 15, they will save $6.7 million against their salary cap. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: Golladay never got on track in a Giants uniform and was only active in six games last season finishing with just 6 receptions and 81 yards. At 29 years old, he still can be a contributor to a receiver-needy team but his poor showing in New York has damaged his value across the league.

|
| Falcons release QB Marcus Mariota Move saves ATL $12 million against the salary cap By: Mike Krueger | Feb 28 2023, 9:59 am
|
Falcons released QB Marcus Mariota. The move saved them $12 million against their salary cap. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: Mariota never amounted to much as the leader of a run-first offense in Atlanta, finishing as the QB25 in fantasy points per game. Desmond Ridder took over the starting job in Week 15 but it appears Atlanta will be involved in the free agent QB market or could possible add a QB with the No.8 pick in the draft.
|
|
| Washington releases QB Carson Wentz Commanders save $26.17 million against their salary cap By: Mike Krueger | Feb 27 2023, 3:32 pm
|
Releasing Carson Wentz saves the Commanders $26.17 million against their salary cap. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: We figured this was going to happen and now it's official. Wentz will now be searching for his fourth team in four years after stints in Philadelphia, Indianapolis and Washington. Sam Howell and Taylor Heinicke are the only QBs on the roster but given Heinicke will be a free agent, Howell appears to be penciled in as the starter for now. Washington also released S Bobby McCain earlier in the day.

| Bears leaning towards trading the No.1 pick Multiple interested in moving up By: Mike Krueger | Feb 27 2023, 7:00 am
|
The Chicago Bears have been approached by multiple teams about trading the No. 1 pick in this year's NFL draft, and Chicago is said to be "leaning toward" moving the pick, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
The Bears own the top pick in a year when anywhere from eight to 12 teams could be looking to make a switch at quarterback. (ESPN)
FFToday's Take: If the Bears are comfortable with Justin Fields, then the likely outcome is for them to move the No.1 overall pick. A number of teams inside the top 12 will be looking at quarterbacks with Alabama's Bryce Young expected to be the top option. The Texans, Colts, Raiders, Falcons and Panthers are all trade-up candidates unless they land a quarterback in free agency.

|
| Titans release Robert Woods, K Randy Bullock Clear $29 million in cap space By: Mike Krueger | Feb 22 2023, 12:36 pm
|
The #Titans' releases of veterans Taylor Lewan, Robert Woods and Randy Bullock cleared nearly $29 million in 2023 salary cap space. (Tom Pelissero on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: The Titans struggled throwing the ball in 2022 tanking Woods' fantasy value. The team passed for less than 3000 yards and only 16 TDs. Woods finished with a 53-527-2 line playing in all 17 games. The 30-year-old should catch on with a team looking for veteran leadership in their wide receiver room, but isn't likely to have much fantasy value.

| Mecole Hardman has surgery on groin Free agent in 2023 By: Mike Krueger | Feb 21 2023, 11:01 am
|
#Chiefs WR Mecole Hardman had successful groin repair surgery with Dr. William Meyers in Philadelphia this morning, per source. It cleared up the issue he was dealing with this past season. An intriguing free agent-to-be. (Tom Pelissero on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: Hardman dealt with a groin injury the second half of the 2022 season and will now be a free agent heading into 2023, which is a weak class for wide receivers. He should be healed well before for training camp.

|
| Aaron Jones reworks deal, sticking in Green Bay $11 million salary for the 2023 By: Mike Krueger | Feb 17 2023, 7:00 am
|
A resolution: Instead of being released, Aaron Jones will be staying in Green Bay this season after the Packers and his agents, Drew Rosenaus and Ryan Matha, reached agreement on an $11 million salary for the 2023 season that includes an $8.52 million signing bonus. Jones still will have two years remaining on his contract with the Packers, but this year has been adjusted. Including this season, Jones now will have made $31 million since 2021, the most for any running back other than Christian McCaffrey. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: Jones was scheduled to count $20 million against the cap on his current deal for 2023 so something had to be worked out between the two sides. Playing hurt most of the second half of 2023, Jones finished as the RB11 (PPR) in fantasy points per game. We can continue to expect a timeshare with AJ Dillon moving forward.

|
| Derek Carr won't accept trade to Saints, looking to be FA Saints and Raiders had a trade framework in place By: Mike Krueger | Feb 12 2023, 2:10 pm
|
Sources: #Raiders QB Derek Carr has informed the team he won’t accept a trade to the #Saints or any other team. The team is expected to release him and he’ll be a top free agent. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: It sounds like Carr, who has a no-trade clause in his Raiders contract, will force his release and become a free agent. Reportedly, the Saints and Raiders had a framework for a deal but Carr is instead wanting to test the market. Carr has a $40 million guarantee set to come due on Tuesday at 4 pm Eastern which is likely forcing the issue.

| Colts eying Eagles' OC Shane Steichen as new head coach Colts have 4th pick in upcoming draft By: Mike Krueger | Feb 12 2023, 11:30 am
|
The Indianapolis Colts have targeted Eagles’ offensive coordinator Shane Steichen to be their next head coach after informing other remaining candidates this morning that they are moving in a different direction, sources tell ESPN. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: Schefter is also reporting that current QB coach Brian Johnson could be elevated to OC in Philadelphia if Steichen leaves for Indianapolis. Steichen has had two interviews with the Colts and met with the Texans prior to them hiring DeMeco Ryans. Indianapolis has the 4th pick in the upcoming draft and will likely be taking a quarterback. We should get confirmation of this potential hire after the Super Bowl.

| Chiefs final injury report is bone dry Super Bowl LVII By: Mike Krueger | Feb 10 2023, 4:33 pm
|
Chiefs are not listing any players with any game injury designations for SBLVII. All players good to go. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: This is laughable considering Patrick Mahomes is dealing with a high ankle sprain and no less than three of Kansas City receivers were injured in the AFC Championship game. Mecole Hardman in on the IR and doesn't need to be listed but JuJu Smith-Schuster (knee) and Kadarius Toney (ankle) are expected to play despite their aliments. How much their injuries bother them in Super Bowl LVII, if at all, is anyone's guess.

| A.J. Green hangs up his cleats WR wraps up brilliant 11-year career with Bengals, Cardinals By: Doug Orth | Feb 6 2023, 11:00 pm
|
Bengals legend A.J. Green announces his retirement from the NFL on Instagram. (The Athletic - Paul Dehner Jr.)
FFToday's Take: Green was one of the NFL's elite receivers from the time he entered the league with the Bengals in 2011 through the end of the 2017 season. Groin and toe injuries hampered him in 2018 and an ankle injury in the summer of 2019 cost him the entire season, marking the beginning of the end for him. Green, who spent the final two years of his NFL playing days with the Cardinals, will finish his career with 727 catches for 10,514 yards and 70 touchdowns.

| Chiefs activate Clyde Edwards-Helaire from IR Mecole Hardman Out for Super Bowl LVII By: Mike Krueger | Feb 6 2023, 12:53 pm
|
Chiefs activated RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire from Reserve/Injured.
They also placed WR Mecole Hardman on Reserve/Injured. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: The Chiefs have been quiet regarding the exact nature of Hardman's pelvic injury which has bothered him ever since Week 9. He aggravated the injury trying to play in the AFC Championship game and will now miss the Super Bowl. JuJu Smith-Schuster is bothered by a knee injury and remains Questionable. It doesn't seem likely that CEH will have any kind of significant role behind Isiah Pacheco and Jerick McKinnon even is he is active on gameday.

|
| Injury update on Chiefs wide receivers Mecole Hardman unlikely to play By: Mike Krueger | Feb 2 2023, 1:03 pm
|
Reid was particularly optimistic that among the injured players Kadarius Toney and JuJu Smith-Schuster would be able to play in the Super Bowl. On JuJu, Reid said, "He's in a good place." Reid was not optimistic about Mecole Hardman. "I doubt he'll make the Super Bowl." (Adam Teicher on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: It sounds like Hardman is likely to be on the Inactive list for Super Bowl but Toney and JuJu have a decent shot of playing. Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Skyy Moore and Justin Watson - who missed last week due to illness - are likely to be in the mix as well. It's almost impossible to predict with accuracy the wide receiver distribution on any given week for the Chiefs.

| Tom Brady announces his retirement Did the same exactly one year ago By: Mike Krueger | Feb 1 2023, 7:00 am
|
Truly grateful on this day. Thank you. (Tom Brady on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: Tom Brady announced his retirement today. He also announced his retirement exactly one year ago. This time it seems final. The future hall-of-famer is 45 years old and has played 23 seasons in the NFL, winning seven Super Bowls. The Bucs are now left with a void at quarterback and the 19th pick in the upcoming draft. The upcoming season feels like a rebuilding period for Tampa Bay.

| Denver settles on Sean Payton as HC Saints expected to get first- and second-round pick in return By: Doug Orth | Jan 31 2023, 11:50 pm
|
Breaking: Saints and Broncos are finalizing compensation in return for Super Bowl-winning HC Sean Payton, sources tell ESPN. This clears the way for Payton to sign with the Broncos to become Denver’s next head coach.
And so Payton is expected to head to Denver as its next HC. (ESPN - Adam Schefter)
FFToday's Take: The first-rounder is a 2023 pick the Broncos received from Miami in the Bradley Chubb trade. The second-rounder is a 2024 selection. The Broncos are also receiving a 2024 third-rounder from the Saints. The acquisition of Payton is a huge boost to the Broncos as a whole and particularly the offense. Payton worked wonderfully for many years with Drew Brees and could have a similar impact on Russell Wilson as moves into the later stages of his career. Fantasy managers should also be thrilled about what this trade means for Courtland Sutton, Jerry Jeudy and Greg Dulcich.

| Trey Lance expects to be ready for OTAs Likely needs 3-4 more weeks before he is cleared to practice By: Doug Orth | Jan 31 2023, 11:30 pm
|
Trey Lance says he’s 3-4 weeks from being fully cleared for practice. He said he’ll be 100 percent for OTAs. (The Athletic - Matt Barrows)
FFToday's Take: Great news for Lance, who was already going to be a hot topic this offseason - even before Brock Purdy suffered what was reported as a torn UCL in his elbow. Purdy's most optimistic timeline at this point appears to be training camp, and that is only if can avoid Tommy John surgery. With Jimmy Garoppolo highly unlikely to return, it paves the way for Lance to reclaim the starting job. If Lance can finally stay healthy in 2023, there is a distinct chance he finally becomes the latest dual-threat quarterback to take the league by storm.

| Chargers tab Kellen Moore as new OC Replaces Joe Lombardi By: Doug Orth | Jan 30 2023, 11:50 pm
|
The Chargers have a new offensive coordinator. The Bolts announced on Monday they have agreed to terms with Kellen Moore for the role. Moore spent the past four seasons as the Offensive Coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys. When Moore became available, the Chargers moved quickly and interviewed Moore on Sunday evening, agreeing to terms shortly thereafter to become to the team's offensive coordinator. In Moore's four seasons in Dallas, the Cowboys twice had the top-ranked offense in yards per game (2019 and 2021) and led the league in points scored in 2021 with 31.2 per game. (Chargers.com - Eric Smith)
FFToday's Take: While Joe Lombardi was good for Austin Ekeler's career, it seems as though he was a bit of a drain on Justin Herbert and the passing game. Moore is an unquestionable upgrade and arguably lands in a situation that has a better player at every key offensive spot than he had in Dallas. Expect Moore to open up the passing game a bit more, including more shots downfield to take advantage of Herbert's arm strength. Ekeler, Mike Williams, Keenan Allen, Joshua Palmer and Gerald Everett are all under contract for 2022.

| Brock Purdy suffers torn UCL Team holding hope he can avoid Tommy John surgery By: Doug Orth | Jan 30 2023, 11:30 pm
|
49ers QB Brock Purdy suffered a complete tear of the UCL in his throwing elbow and will undergo surgery, per sources.
Purdy is getting second opinions, but the initial hope is he can undergo a repair - not reconstruction (AKA Tommy John) - and will be ready for training camp. (NFL Network - Tom Pelissero)
FFToday's Take: A repair would likely give Purdy a chance to hold onto a starting job in camp, whereas a reconstruction would likely force him to miss the entire 2023 season and allow Trey Lance to reclaim QB1 duties without much of a challenge. Purdy did enough this season to enter camp as the starter, but Lance is a supremely talented player that the 49ers moved heaven and earth to acquire in the 2021 draft. For now, fantasy managers should expect Lance to be the Week 1 starter next fall.

| Travis Kelce added to injury report, Mahomes not listed Back injury for Kelce By: Mike Krueger | Jan 27 2023, 4:02 pm
|
The Chiefs added Travis Kelce to their injury report with a back injury and listed him as questionable for Sunday's game. Mecole Hardman and Justin Watson (illness) are also questionable.
Patrick Mahomes has no injury designation, so he's good to go. (Adam Teicher on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: Despite his absence from the report, Mahomes will be bothered by his ankle sprain suffered in last week's game against Jacksonville. How much it will hamper his mobility is the big question. Kelce did practice fully on Friday and there's been no indication that he's in danger of missing this game.

| Elijah Mitchell questionable with groin injury McCaffrey not on injury report By: Mike Krueger | Jan 27 2023, 4:01 pm
|
#49ers game status report for for NFC Championship Game vs. Eagles:
Christian McCaffrey is not on the injury report and will play (as he said himself on Thursday)
OUT
QB Jimmy Garoppolo (foot)
QUESTIONABLE
RB Elijah Mitchell (groin)
CB Ambry Thomas (ankle) (Jennifer Lee Chan on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: McCaffrey was dealing with a calf issue last week but appears to be good to go for San Francisco's NFC Championship game against the Eagles. Deebo Samuel (ankle) is also absent from the report. Mitchell's status remains up in the air as he was limited on Friday. We'll have a better idea of his true status on Sunday.

| Carolina rolling with former Colts' HC Frank Reich Steve Wilks left out in the cold By: Mike Krueger | Jan 26 2023, 2:01 pm
|
Former Colts’ HC Frank Reich is being named the new head coach of the Carolina Panthers. Reich now returns to the franchise he quarterbacked in 1995. Frank Reich had five different Week 1 starting quarterbacks in his five years with Indianapolis. He’ll be getting another new QB in Carolina - with hopes this one sticks longer. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: Interim head coach Steve Wilks doesn't get the gig and will now likely be searching for a DC job elsewhere. The Panthers are still searching for a quarterback after trying Baker Mayfield, P.J. Walker and Sam Darnold during the 2022 season. Carolina has the 9th pick in the upcoming draft and will likely be active in the free agent QB market.

| Josh Allen not expected to go under the knife Elbow injury nagged him for second half of regular season By: Doug Orth | Jan 24 2023, 4:50 pm

Brandon Beane says "I think we're good there" as far as Josh Allen not planning to have offseason surgery on his right elbow. Allen said yesterday plan for elbow revolves around rest. (Katherine Fitzgerald on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: Allen suggested Monday that his mechanics and throwing motion were affected by the Week 9 injury until the end of the regular season. Considering he seems to be pain-free right now - he told reporters he was back to his old mechanics and throwing motion about two weeks ago on Monday - he should be in great shape for the offseason and training camp. Allen figures to be the top quarterback off fantasy draft boards in most leagues again this offseason.
