Each week I’ll provide you with a rundown by position of key
waiver wire adds. We’ll evaluate not just breakouts based
on past performance, but also who could deliver this week based
on a soft matchup. Stats will be provided based on a 12-team PPR
league, with players less than 75% (preferably less than 50%) ownership
being considered.
Week 10 byes: Kansas City, LA Rams, Miami, Philadelphia
Josh recommended Levis last
week coming off his four-TD performance in Week 8 and I’m
going back to the well here assuming Ryan Tannehill (ankle) remains
out. The Bucs just got torched by C.J. Stroud (470-5-0) and don’t
give up a lot of production on the ground which should force the
Titans out of their comfort zone and into a pass-heavy gameplan.
Given all the injuries we’ve seen at quarterback, there
are very few viable options on the waiver wire. Dobbs is noteworthy
due to his rushing ability (7-66-1 last week) but he’s still
trying to get acclimated with his new team and faces a solid Saints-D
that has yet to allow a 300-yard passer.
Will Levis,
TEN @ PIT: Levis looked impressive compared to a lot of the backup
QB play we’re seeing across the league, especially going up against
a tough Steelers defense. However, the lack of rushing and zero
passing TDs isn’t what we’re looking for. His 262-0-1 line with
only 2 rushing yards was good for QB22 on the week.
Derek Carr,
NO vs CHI: Carr had a decent day (25/34 for 211-2-0) but was bit
by the Taysom Hill bug who came in near the goaline and threw
a TD pass to TE Juwan Johnson. Carr has a decent matchup against
the Vikings in Week 10 before the Saints go on bye in Week 11.
Mac Jones,
NE vs WAS: Jones completed just 54.5% of his passes against the
Commanders who have given up the third most fantasy points to
the position. Not great. In Mac’s defense, he was dealing with
5’8” Demario Douglas and Jalen Reagor has his top receivers. Jones
faces a neutral matchup against the Colts in Week 10 before their
Week 11 bye.
If Foreman was dropped due to the threat of Roschon Johnson returning
from his concussion, it’s time to pick him back up. The last two
weeks has seen Foreman out-touch the rookie 30 to 12. Khalil Herbert
could be active for this game, but I expect Foreman to remain
involved. The Bears face the Panthers who have given up the second
most fantasy points to running backs.
The Vikings just lost backup running back Cam Akers to another
Achilles injury, his second in his career. Expect to see Chandler
pickup some volume but keep your expectations in check as the
Vikings have struggled to run the ball and he’s only going to
fill the backup role behind Alexander Mattison.
Mitchell exploded last week (9-138-1) but still will be part
of a three-man rotation for the Ravens that also includes Gus
Edwards and Justice Hill.
"I'm sure there'll be a rotation. Sometimes it's by certain
scheme, sometimes it's by who's hot. Sometimes it's by who's tired
with running backs. It just kind of depends." – John Harbaugh.
Mitchell is more a contingent bench stash than a play in
Week 10 against the Browns who’ve given up the 4th fewest fantasy
points to the position.
Charbonnet has played more snaps than Kenneth Walker over the
last two weeks but it didn’t translate into touches and production
last week against the Ravens (4-8-0, 1-5-0). The sledding should
be easier against the Commanders who traded away two of their
starting defensive linemen and represent a neutral matchup against
RBs.
Emari Demercado,
ARI @ CLE: Demercado (toe) ended up being Inactive last week.
The Cardinals turned to Keaontay Ingram and Toney Jones as they
got blown out by the Browns and failed to score a single point.
Darrell
Henderson, LAR @ GB: Henderson struggled to get anything going
against the Packers, rushing for 19 yards on 10 carries. He’s
splitting time with Royce Freeman but remains the preferred fantasy
option as Freeman isn’t involved in the passing game.
Johnston is set to take over the No.2 wide receiver role now
that Josh Palmer (knee) has been put on Injured Reserve. Johnston
had six targets in Week 8 against the Bears and plays Monday night
in a difficult matchup against the Jets.
We know Arthur Smith doesn’t want to feature his best players
so that means Jonnu is a viable tight end streamer. Use him. Smith
has two more targets than Kyle Pitts on the season.
Brandin Cooks,
DAL @ PHI: This was a good spot for the Dallas passing offense
and Dak Prescott threw for 373 yards and 3 touchdowns. However,
Cooks was absent with only 2 targets and 1 catch for 7 yards.
CeeDee Lamb (11-191-0) and TE Jake Ferguson (7-91-1) did all the
damage.
Demario Douglas,
NE vs WAS: Douglas played 82.8% of the snaps and saw a 16.3% target
share on his way to a 5-55-0 line. His 7 targets tied him with
JuJu Smith-Schuster and tight end Hunter Henry for the team lead.
TE Cade Otton, TB @ HOU: Otton posted his best fantasy game of
the season (6-70-2) on 9 targets in the high-scoring affair with
the Texans. This will likely be his high-water mark for the season
so hopefully you jumped on board!
TE Gerald Everett,
LAC @ NYJ: Update - The Chargers
struggled to sustain drives which led to low offensive output.
Everett caught both of his target for 18 yards.
Defense / Special Teams
Seahawks vs WAS
The Seahawks got run over by the Ravens in Week 9 but should
bounce back at home against the Commanders. We know Sam Howell
likes to take sacks and I expect a handful from Seattle in Week
10.
Steelers vs GB
The Steelers are 8th in total sacks, T-1st in fumble recoveries,
T-8th in INTs and have two defensive scores on the season. The
Packers offense is an inexperienced group and still prone to making
mistakes.
Saints @ MIN
The Saints lead the league in INTs (12) and the Vikings quarterback
has been with the team for less than two weeks. I’d be surprised
if Minnesota scores more than 20 points.
Last week’s waiver adds:
Patriots vs WAS: The Patriots recorded 3 sacks,
1 fumble recovery and 1 INT while allowing 20 points to the Commanders.
A top-10 showing.
Raiders vs NYG: The Raiders-D dominated the
Giants 0-line recording 8 sacks, 2 INTs while allowing just 6
points. The Browns and Colts (2 TDs) were the only other defenses
to score more points on the week.
Giants vs LV: Yikes. The Giants lost their quarterback
and couldn’t wait to leave Las Vegas. They recorded 1 sack
and allowed 30 points to a Raiders team with Aidan O'Connell at
quarterback.
