Tyjae Spears played a complementary role to Derrick Henry during his rookie season. He proved to be a quality pass-catching back in this secondary role. He garnered a 13.8 percent target share which led to 68 total targets. Levis seemed more than willing to use Spears as a receiver, giving him 6-plus targets in four of nine starts.
Spears is not your prototypical early-down rusher but he was effective on the ground as a rookie. He posted 4.5 yards per carry while averaging 2.9 yards after contact per attempt.
Derrick Henry departed for Baltimore but the Titans rightfully felt that Spears is not a bell-cow back. They added Tony Pollard in free agency to split touches with Spears.
Spears is exactly the type of player to invest in, an explosive second-year back with receiving chops. The presence of Pollard caps his ceiling but taking chances on intriguing talent is how league winners are found.

Tony Pollard is expected to play in Week 16 Missed practice all week By: Mike Krueger | Sat Dec 21, 11:18 pm
| | Titans RB Tony Pollard, listed as questionable for Sunday due to an ankle injury, is expected to play vs. the Colts, per source. (Adam Schefter on X)
FFToday's Take: Despite missing practice all week with an ankle injury, Pollard is set to suit up against the Colts in Week 16. He aggravated his injury last week which allowed Tyjae Spears to have his best fantasy game of the season (4-5-1, 6-87-1). Pollard will be a risky RB2 this week as continues to play through his ankle issues.
| Tony Pollard misses practice all week, Questionable Ankle injury By: Mike Krueger | Fri Dec 20, 2:50 pm
| | Running back Tony Pollard (ankle) did not practice on Friday and he's QUESTIONABLE. (TennesseeTitans.com)
FFToday's Take: Pollard injured his ankle in Week 15, missed practice all week and has been listed as Questionable for Week 16 against the Colts. We should get more clarification over the weekend on his status, but if he sits, Tyjae Spears would leap into RB2 territory against a Colts defense that's given up the 6th most fantasy points to running backs.
| Tyjae Spears set to miss some games Hamstring injury in Week 6 By: Doug Orth | Mon Oct 14, 3:20 pm
| | Titans coach Brian Callahan tells reporters that RB Tyjae Spears is considered week-to-week with a hamstring injury, likely meaning he’ll miss time. (NFL Network - Ian Rapoport)
FFToday's Take: It is unfortunate timing for Spears and his fantasy managers given the fact Tennessee just came off a bye week, but it does open things up for Tony Pollard to become a true featured back over the next week or so. Pollard was already playing at a RB1 level, so his stock gets a slight boost with this news. Julius Chestnut theoretically becomes Pollard's handcuff in the interim.
