2024 Outlook

Smith-Njigba was the first of 32 receivers selected in the 2023 NFL Draft, but he finished seventh among rookie wideouts in receptions (63) and eighth in yards (628) while scoring four times. While those are decent numbers, there were plenty of fantasy owners disappointed by the former Buckeye's efforts in Year 1. Look for things to improve in 2024. JSN was a standout in OTAs and minicamps, drawing praise from the coaching staff and those that cover the organization. Granted, we're talking non-contact work, but the arrow appears to be pointing up.

His ascension isn't a slam dunk, however, as he'll need to overtake Lockett to really start making a statistical impact week to week. We're also into uncharted territory with the new coaching staff and what they'll look to emphasize, not to mention the possible upheaval at quarterback if things start to go south for the Seahawks. Fantasy owners can be a fickle lot, and doubtless many will feel burned after they overdrafted Smith-Njigba a year ago. Don't fall into that trap. Given his talent, and the glowing reports about his offseason work, you can draft JSN as a WR4 with decent upside.

Seahawks open to trading WR DK Metcalf
Receiver has one year left on current contract

Two-time Pro Bowl WR DK Metcalf has requested a trade and the #Seahawks have agreed to explore options, sources tell me and @RapSheet. Days before free agency, the 27-year-old Metcalf immediately becomes the top receiver available. (Tom Pelissero on X)

FFToday's Take: Metcalf likely wasn't happy with his role last season which saw him slip behind Jaxon Smith-Njigba as the team's No.1 wideout. He still has one year left on his current deal and reportedly would like re-negotiate a longer deal with whatever team he lands with. With the release of Tyler Lockett, the Seahawks will be revamping key pieces to their wide receiver room in 2025.

Seahawks are releasing an all-time franchise great, wide receiver Tyler Lockett, who piled up 8,594 receiving yards and 61 touchdowns across 10 seasons in Seattle. The Seahawks are opting to release Lockett rather than pay him his $17 million salary for this season, including a $5.3 million roster bonus due March 16. (Adam Schefter on X)

FFToday's Take: This move was expected as Jaxon Smith-Njigba took over the No.1 receiving role for the Seahawks last season. Lockett is 32 years old and will likely have to settle if a reduced role for whatever teams he lands with in 2025. Perhaps reuniting with HC Pete Carrol in Las Vegas?
