2025 Outlook
Depth Chart
Darren Waller retired following an ugly 2023 season with the Giants. He now returns to the field as a Dolphin here in 2025, stepping into what was an extremely productive tight end role for the Dolphins in 2024. Jonnu Smith made 88 catches for the Dolphins last season and the team still opted to move on from him, potentially indicating that they believe that other tight ends could return most, if not all of what Smith did in his breakout season.

However, at age 32, Waller's injury history and lack of production since his 2020-21 peak should temper expectations for fantasy managers. Miami's pass-heavy offense and vacated targets offer opportunity, but Waller's unlikely to see much volume in an offense where he's competing with the likes of Hill, Waddle, and Achane.

Still, Waller's going undrafted in many leagues and it wouldn't be difficult for him to far exceed his draft day cost. His 2025 role may be touchdown-dependent, but the Dolphins are an efficient offense that should give him plenty of opportunities to score and return to the old days of fantasy glory.

Injury Tyreek Hill suffers significant knee injury in Week 4
Likely suffered dislocated knee
By: Doug Orth | Mon Sep 29, 9:00 pm

Miami Dolphins
Dolphins fear WR Tyreek Hill dislocated his knee, per source. Hill is an ambulance on the way to the hospital to confirm. (ESPN - Adam Schefter)

FFToday's Take: Hill was almost immediately ruled out. The likelihood is that his season is over, although there will be plenty of time for the team to confirm that in the days ahead. Assuming Hill is done for 2025, Jaylen Waddle will step into the lead receiver role in Miami and could push for top 20 status at his position. Malik Washington because a high-priority add off the waiver wire this week and should be considered a flex option at worst. Last but not least, Darren Waller has a shoot at being a top 15 tight end the rest of the way.

Injury Darren Waller unlikely to play Week 1
Strained hip
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Sep 5, 11:38 am

Miami Dolphins
Dolphins TE Darren Waller had a surprise setback before practice this week suffering a hip strain, and he’s unlikely to play Sunday vs. Colts, HC Mike McDaniel tells reporters. Waller’s Miami debut out of retirement will have to wait. (Cameron Wolfe on X)

FFToday's Take: Waller missed all of 2024 in retirement and spent most of training camp on the PUP list. Safe to say he's way down the ranks for fantasy tight ends at the moment. Being absent this week will leave the Dolphins with Julian Hill and Tanner Conner at tight end. Neither are recommended fantasy plays against the Colts.
