Brady, NE |

Peyton
Manning has been the top rated fantasy QB for a number
of years now, but with Randy Moss and Wes Welker in
New England the torch has been passed to Brady. He has
a legitimate chance of passing for 4000 yards and 30
touchdowns every season for the next few years. |

Peyton
Manning, IND |
9 |
4 |
8 |
8 |
3 |
Brady
may have surpassed Manning in the annual QB rankings,
but Peyton can still go toe-to-toe against him. Even
with Marvin Harrison breaking down, Reggie Wayne and
Dallas Clark give him two solid targets that will keep
his numbers up. Anthony Gonzalez may prove to be a productive
target for him also. |
3 |
Tony
Romo, DAL |
5 |
2 |
1 |
2 |
3 |
Romo has
been a fantasy stud at the QB position ever since he
took over for Drew Bledsoe midway through the 2006 campaign.
With top wideout Terrell Owens signing a 3-year contract
extension that keeps him a Cowboy through the 2011 season,
expect him to maintain that status. He also makes excellent
use of tight end Jason Witten. |
4 |
Drew
Brees, NO |
7 |
3 |
4 |
5 |
3 |
Brees
has had excellent outings during his first two years
with the Saints. Marques Colston and Reggie Bush have
become established targets for him in the passing game.
The recent addition of Jeremy Shockey will only further
Brees’ production. |
5 |
Carson
Palmer, CIN |
5 |
9 |
3 |
4 |
3 |
Eventhough
last season was considered a disappointing one for Palmer,
he still threw for over 4100 yards with 26 touchdowns.
Despite Chad Johnson’s offseason antics, he will
remain in Cincinnati this year. Paired with T.J. Houshmanzadeh
he makes for one of the best receiving duos in the league. |
6 |
Derek
Anderson, CLE |
3 |
5 |
1 |
1 |
2 |
Anderson
had an outstanding performance as a first year starter
with the Browns in 2007. Braylon Edwards and Kellen
Winslow give him two of the top receiving threats in
the game. The offseason acquisition of Donte’
Stallworth will help him out as well. This year he needs
to prove he isn’t simply a one-year wonder. |
7 |
Ben
Roethlisberger, PIT |
4 |
8 |
2 |
4 |
2 |
Roethlisberger
needs to build off of last years performance in order
to prove he is a worthy starter in fantasy leagues,
but at the moment he is one of the more established
QBs in the NFL. Expect his growth to continue over the
next few seasons. |
8 |
Jay
Cutler, DEN |
2 |
12 |
1 |
1 |
2 |
Cutler
has had an impressive start to his young career, but
the impending suspension of Brandon Marshall could limit
his overall production in 2008. In the long-run however,
expect Cutler to perform as one of the top QBs over
the next several seasons. |
9 |
Eli
Manning, NYG |
4 |
13 |
2 |
3 |
2 |
Eli may
have won the Super Bowl last year, but he needs to perform
more consistenly in the regular season to rank among
the elite QBs in fantasy football. Perhaps the added
confidence that comes with owning a ring will help him
achieve that status. |
10 |
Philip
Rivers, SD |
4 |
15 |
1 |
2 |
2 |
Rivers
has had two strong seasons since taking over as the
starter in San Diego. He needs to develop further however
if he’s to be regarded as more than a borderline
starter in fantasy leagues. Playing his first full season
with Chris Chambers at receiver may help him accomplish
that task. |
11 |
Matt
Schaub, HOU |
4 |
24 |
0 |
1 |
2 |
If it
weren’t for injuries to both himself and Andre
Johnson, Schaub may have ranked among the top 12 at
his position last year. If the duo can remain healthy
expect Schaub to be a worthy starter on fantasy teams. |
12 |
Matt
Hasselbeck, SEA |
10 |
7 |
3 |
6 |
2 |
Given
the consistent outings Hasselbeck usually provides,
he has probably been one of the more underated QBs in
recent years. This season his numbers may drop however
as Seattle attempts to reestablish their ground game.
His future could be cloudy as well once Mike Holmgren
retires at the end of the year. |
13 |
David
Garrard, JAC |
6 |
16 |
0 |
1 |
1 |
Garrard
had an impressive showing for himself as a first time
starter in the league last season. Despite missing 4
games due to injury he still threw for 18 touchdowns,
with just 3 interceptions. His ability to pick up yards
on the ground also adds to his value. |
14 |
Donovan
McNabb, PHI |
9 |
14 |
3 |
7 |
1 |
McNabb
returned from a season ending knee injury in 2006 to
start 14 games for the Eagles last season. He finished
with some impressive numbers, looking stronger as the
season went on. He failed to throw for more than 19
touchdowns however for the fifth time in his last six
seasons. |
15 |
Marc
Bulger, STL |
8 |
21 |
4 |
6 |
1 |
Bulger
and the Rams suffered through a miserable 2007 campaign.
Nonetheless the St. Louis gunslinger is just two years
removed from a career year he had in 2006. Provided
he stays healthy he could prove to be a worthwhile starter
over the next couple seasons. |
16 |
Matt
Leinart, ARI |
2 |
52 |
0 |
0 |
1 |
Leinart
didn’t play particularly well last season before
going down for the remainder of the year with a broken
collarbone in week 5. Kurt Warner played well during
his absence, but Leinart is still slated as the starter
for the 2008 campaign. Offseason reports about his preperation
for the upcoming season have been positive, but it won’t
mean anything if he doesn’t produce on the field. |
17 |
Aaron
Rodgers, GB |

64 |
* |
* |
1 |
Despite
Brett Favre’s desire to return to the playing
field, the Packers are now committed to Aaron Roders
as their starter. With Greg Jennings, Donald Driver,
and James Jones surrounding him, the fourth-year vet
may find early success as a first time starter in the
league. |
18 |
Trent
Edwards, BUF |

30 |

1 |
Edwards
started nine games as a rookie last season and performed
well enough to wrestle the job away from J.P. Losman
heading into 2008. In Lee Evans and Marshawn Lynch,
Edwards has some solid talent to work with at the skill
positions. Second round pick James Hardy may become
a useful outlet for him as well in the years ahead. |
19 |
Jake
Delhomme, CAR |
10 |
45 |
2 |
4 |
0 |
Delhomme
may be on the wrong side of 30, and coming off Tommy
John surgery, but it appears he’ll remain the
starter in Carolina for at least a couple more seasons.
He has had no setbacks in his recovery and should be
good to go at the start of the year. With Steve Smith
around Delhomme ranks among the better #2 QBs in fantasy
leagues. |
20 |
Vince
Young, TEN |
2 |
17 |
1 |
2 |
0 |
Young
enters his third season coming off a disappointing sophomore
campaign. With no legitimate threat at receiver in Tennessee
it will be difficult for the former first round pick
to up his passing totals. His scrambling ability does
add to his value however. |
21 |
Jason
Campbell, WAS |
3 |
18 |
0 |
1 |
0 |
Campbell
enters his fourth season learning the ins and outs of
Jim Zorn’s west coast offense. It could be a work
in progress that Campbell may never master. If he does
however, expect him to start putting up solid totals
during the next few seasons. |
22 |
Jon
Kitna, DET |
11 |
11 |
3 |
6 |
0 |
At 36
come October, Kitna is clearly towards the end of his
career. Having Roy Williams and Calvin Johnson at his
disposal makes it hard to overlook him however. He’s
a borderline starter and solid #2 QB as long as he remains
Detroit’s signal caller. |
23 |
Tarvaris
Jackson, MIN |
2 |
20 |
0 |
1 |
0 |
Jackson
had his ups and downs as a first year starter with the
Vikings last season, but maintains his position atop
the depth chart entering 2008. Having Adrian Peterson
in the backfield should help him tremendously. Free
agent signee Bernard Berrian should also prove productive.
But if he falters again he could lose his starting status
in the NFL rather quickly. |
24 |
JaMarcus
Russell, OAK |
1 |
57 |
* |
* |
0 |
The #1
overall pick of a year ago, Russell now takes over as
the starter in Oakland. He’ll have his growing
pains, but playing in Lane Kiffen’s offense makes
Russell a promising selection in dynasty leagues. Nonetheless,
he still needs to prove himself a capable starter at
the pro level. |
25 |
Alex
Smith, SF |
3 |
47 |
0 |
1 |
0 |
Smith
remains the starter in San Francisco for now, but could
lose that title quickly if he doesn’t produce
in 2008. With Mike Martz calling the 49ers offense Smith
comes with some upside, but that will vanish quickly
if he loses the starting job. |
26 |
Matt
Ryan, ATL |
R |
* |
* |
* |
0 |
The third
overall pick in this years draft, Ryan will have the
oppurtunity to win the starting job as a rookie in Atlanta.
More likely than not though he will begin the season
backing up either Chris Redman or Joey Harrington. Regardless,
expect him to be under center by the end of the year
in 2008. |
27 |
Kellen
Clemens, NYJ |
2 |
31 |

0 |
Clemens
is battling for the starting job this preseason against
Chad Pennington, but is still the favorite to win that
title. He’ll have some talent surrounding him
at the skill positions to help him out, but has a lot
to show before being considered a worthy QB in fantasy
leagues. |
28 |
Brodie
Croyle, KC |
2 |
39 |

Croyle
gets the starting nod in Kansas City after closing out
the 2007 season with that role. He could be a pleasant
surprise if he makes proper use of Tony Gonzalez and
Dwayne Bowe in the passing game. It will likely be another
year or two though before he fully develops. |
29 |
Joe
Flacco, BAL |
R |
* |
* |
* |
0 |
Troy Smith
or Kyle Boller appears to be the early favorite to start
at QB for the Ravens in 2008, but sooner or later expect
Flacco to get the nod. Offensive Coordinator Cam Cameron
has had much success with QBs in the past, giving good
reason to expect a promising start to Flacco’s
career once he’s under center in Baltimore. |
30 |
Chad
Henne, MIA |
R |
* |
* |
* |
0 |
At the
moment, Miami has no idea which of the QBs on their
roster will start the 2008 opener. Josh McCown isn’t
a long term solution however, and John Beck would need
to shine to hold off the new coaching regime’s
hand picked QB in this years draft, Chad Henne. Down
the road, expect Henne to be the QB Miami attempts to
build around. |
31 |
Jeff
Garcia, TB |
9 |
19 |
4 |
5 |
0 |
Garcia
is 38 years old, but as long as he is the starter in
Tampa Bay he holds some value in dynasty leagues as
a back-up. He may have another year or two in him as
a starter for the Buccaneers. |
32 |
Kevin
Kolb, PHI |
1 |
* |
* |

0 |
Ever since
Kolb was selected in the second round of the 2007 draft,
people have wondered how much longer McNabb will remain
in Philadelphia. He could be gone in another year or
two, and once that happens Kolb will be starting for
the Eagles. Given Andy Reid’s track record with
QBs, there is reason to expect good things from Kolb
once he takes over the Eagles offense. |
33 |
Troy
Smith, BAL |

52 |

While
it seems inevitable Flacco will start for the Ravens
within another year or two, Troy Smith looks like he
will get the starting nod in 2008. If he performs well
enough other teams may take interest in him once Flacco
takes over in Baltimore. |
34 |
Kyle
Orton, CHI |

Someone
has to start in Chicago, and even should Grossman win
the Bears QB battle this offseason it’s hard to
imagine he’ll keep that spot throughout the year
given his past performances. Neither has much upside,
but Orton’s is slightly higher than Grossman’s
at the moment. |
35 |
Brett
Favre, ? |
17 |

7 |
8 |
0 |
Favre
continues to waffle between his retirement and desire
to play, but until we know he’s hung ’em
up for good he needs to be listed here. If he returns
to start in the NFL he can’t be any worse than
a #2 QB option in fantasy leagues. |
36 |
Kurt
Warner, ARI |
10 |
10 |
2 |
5 |
0 |
Warner
is 37 years old, but had a great season last year after
filling in for an injured Matt Leinart. If Leinart struggles
to start the new season expect Warner to again receive
playing time. Given his performance last year, along
with knowing he’d be throwing to one of the best
receiving duos in the NFL, he shouldn’t be overlooked. |
37 |
John
Beck, MIA |
1 |
55 |
* |
* |
0 |
As mentioned
above regarding Chad Henne, Miami has no idea who will
be their starter on opening day. Even if Josh McCown
wins the three way battle, both Henne and Beck offer
more upside long term. |
38 |
Brady
Quinn, CLE |
1 |
* |
* |
* |
0 |
Despite
being a first round pick, Derek Anderson’s emergence
last season has blocked the path of Brady Quinn becoming
a starter in the NFL. Without Anderson faltering, there
is no telling when Quinn will get the chance to start
in the league. |
39 |
Chad
Pennington, NYJ |

26 |

4 |
0 |
Pennington
appears to have lost his starting position with the
Jets to Kellen Clemens, but he still has the chance
to win it back during the preseason. He’s also
likely to get another look during the year if Clemens
struggles as a starter. |
40 |
J.T.
O' Sullivan, SF |

Alex Smith
remains the starter in San Francisco for the time being,
but current reports suggest J.T. O’Sullivan has
looked the best of the 49ers quarterbacks during camp.
It’s a long shot, but O’Sullivan could get
the starting nod at the start, or during the season
if he continues to impress the coaching staff. |
